Articulating Arm
The articulating arm like the manipulating arm is suspended from a vertical axis column which can be floor, overhead, carriage or bench top mounted. The parallelogram of this unit also maintains the attitude of the work load throughout the vertical travel of the arm. The articulating arm always has three vertical axis pivots, this includes a pivot at the vertical column, and the end of the parallelogram, this end of arm pivot has a horizontal extension with a pivot mounted to the end of the extension. These three pivots allow the arm to fold up on itself and eliminates the need for a bridge when suspended from overhead runways. The options for an articulating arm includes end of arm pivots, rotates, and leveling plates which support the tooling or end effector.
This tool like the manipulating arm is an excellent choice in material handling or torque absorbing applications, this unit is used where a horizontal reach from the centerline of the support column and runways or pedestal is required. Examples of this also would be into a dunnage, conveyor, machine or vehicle. A manipulating arm can be suspended from overhead using a dual runway system, it also can be fixed or floor mounted.

Articulating arms, like those used for manipulating objects, are engineered for advanced material handling, precise placement, and torque absorption tasks. These arms are suspended from a vertical-axis column, which can be mounted in several configurations—floor, overhead, carriage, or bench top—making them versatile for a wide range of industrial applications.
How the Articulating Arm Works
Each articulating arm features a robust parallelogram design that maintains the orientation of the load throughout vertical movement. This ensures stable handling and optimal tool positioning. The arm includes three vertical-axis pivot points:
- A base pivot at the vertical column
- A pivot at the end of the parallelogram
- A third pivot is mounted to a horizontal extension at the end of the arm
These multiple pivot points allow the arm to fold into itself, eliminating the need for a bridge when used with overhead runway systems.
End-Effector and Tooling Support Options
To further enhance functionality, articulating arms can be configured with:
- End-of-arm pivots
- Rotating mounts
- Leveling plates for supporting custom tooling or end effectors
This flexibility makes the arm ideal for applications requiring horizontal reach beyond the centerline of the column or support
Ideal Applications
Articulating arms are a top choice for:
- Material handling into conveyors, machines, vehicles, or dunnage
- Torque reaction support in manufacturing or assembly lines
- Environments where space efficiency and tool stability are critical
These systems are available as overhead-suspended, floor-mounted, or fixed-mount units.
Types of Articulating Arms
We offer several types of articulating arms to suit various workspaces and application needs:
- Bench Articulating Arm – Ideal for light-duty work at benchtop level
- Floor Mounted Arm – Provides stable, heavy-duty performance at ground level
- Overhead Suspended Arm with Tool Holder – Maximizes floor space while supporting dynamic applications
- Bench Linear Arm – Designed for precise linear motion across bench setups
- Floor Mounted Linear Arm – Combines floor stability with linear reach for wide work areas
